DAY 1: Introduction to Old Beijing – Hutong Life & Houhai Lake Nightscape

The first day is designed for easy adaptation, allowing you to soak up the original charm of old Beijing without heavy sightseeing, easing you into the city at a leisurely pace.

  • Morning: Airport pick-up and transfer to your hotel. Settle in and recover from travel fatigue to get ready for the days ahead.
  • Late Afternoon: Stroll through historic hutongs and around Houhai Lake. Wander along narrow alleyways away from urban hustle, observing local residents’ daily life, including elderly locals playing chess on the street. Experience the quiet, authentic atmosphere of old Beijing before reaching Houhai Lake, a peaceful waterside retreat hidden in the city.
  • Evening: Dinner at a traditional hutong restaurant, where you can try local hot pot. As night falls, Houhai comes alive with twinkling lights and live music from lakeside cafés. Enjoy the gentle breeze and one of Beijing’s most charming urban night scenes.

DAY 2: Spiritual Beijing – Serene Temples & Artistic Old Streets

Day two focuses on Beijing’s religious culture and lesser-known artistic old lanes, exploring the city’s spiritual heritage and the unique blend of traditional architecture and contemporary local vibes.

  • 7:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Temple of Heaven. Visit early to beat the crowds. The park teems with local seniors practising tai chi, dancing and singing. Afterwards, visit the magnificent Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests with its striking blue roof, an architectural masterpiece built for ancient emperors’ heaven-worshipping rituals.
  • 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Lama Temple (Yonghegong). Beijing’s largest Tibetan Buddhist temple. Wander amid curling incense smoke and admire the 18-metre Buddha statue carved from a single piece of wood, the temple’s treasured centrepiece. Feel the solemn and peaceful ambience of Buddhist culture.
  • Afternoon: Lunch near Lama Temple. This neighbourhood boasts excellent vegetarian restaurants and trendy cafés. After lunch, take a relaxing walk along the nearby historic Wudaoying Hutong, a less commercialised old lane retaining classic Beijing hutong features with a laid-back artistic flair.

DAY 3: The Imperial Heart of Beijing (Fixed Date) – Central Axis Royal Tour

Today’s route covers core landmarks on Beijing’s central axis, showcasing the grandeur of imperial China in one packed day.

  • 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM: Tiananmen Square. Please bring your passport to pass strict security checks. Walk across the world’s largest urban square and feel its solemn atmosphere.
  • 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Forbidden City (Palace Museum). Enter directly from the square through the Meridian Gate (South Gate). Roam the sprawling imperial complex from south to north at your own pace among red walls and golden tiles. Cafés and restaurants inside the museum are available for lunch breaks.
  • 2:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Jingshan Park. Exit the Forbidden City via the North Gate, cross the road and climb the small hill inside the park. The summit offers the best panoramic view overlooking the sea of golden imperial roofs of the Forbidden City.
  • Late Afternoon onwards: Return to the hotel for rest. The extensive walking inside the Forbidden City can be tiring, so take time to recharge.

DAY 4: Great Wall Excursion with Toboggan Slide – Mountain Majesty & Modern Wangfujing

Travel out of the city to the Great Wall for spectacular mountain scenery plus a fun toboggan ride. Return downtown in the evening to explore Beijing’s bustling modern shopping district.

  • 2:00 PM: Late lunch. Taste local grilled trout at a restaurant near the Great Wall entrance before your driver picks you up.
