Shinsenkyo Gorge - Shenquanxia Scenic Area

Shenquanxia Scenic Area, located in Tanchang Village, Miaofengshan Town, Mentougou District, Beijing, is a national AAA-level scenic area. It is approximately 45 kilometers from Beijing and 7.5 kilometers from National Highway 109. Shenquanxia boasts beautiful natural scenery and unique geological formations. The eastern part consists of Cambrian limestone dating back 500 million years, while the majority is composed of Jurassic volcanic rocks from 150 million years ago. The unique igneous geological formations have created numerous unique landscapes: falling rocks, vertically jointed cliffs, red stone valleys, rock walls, and Danshi Gorge, among others. The total area is 5 square kilometers, with a maximum elevation of over 1200 meters. Visitors to Shenquanxia can enjoy spring outings and flower viewing, summer retreats and cool respite from the heat, autumn fruit picking, and winter's stunning icefalls. Every winter, it attracts a large number of tourists and photographers. In the canyon, icefalls stretch as far as the eye can see, with clusters and clumps of ice pillars, ice stalagmites, icefalls, ice flowers, icicles, and ice towers glistening and dazzling under the warm winter sun. Whether viewed from afar or up close, the scenery is breathtaking, resembling hundreds of sharp blades unsheathed, an elephant drinking water, or clusters of small mushrooms. The icicles blend seamlessly with the shrubs, creating a picturesque scene and showcasing the most magnificent northern landscape in the mountains during winter. It is a rare natural landscape in Beijing. Tanchang Village has deeply explored its revolutionary history during the Anti-Japanese War, building a Red Culture Memorial Hall to recreate the activities of the Changwan County Zuogong Office, the CCP leadership government in Yongding Hebei, in Tanchang. Inheriting the indomitable revolutionary spirit of their ancestors, the people of Tanchang Village have found a green development path suitable for themselves, organically combining the village's three transformations with the history of the Anti-Japanese War, and integrating the construction of a beautiful countryside with the cultural relics and historical sites from the revolutionary period, creating a "Party Building + Beautiful Countryside Construction Education Base."
