Jietai Temple is a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a scenic spot in Beijing, and a religious activity site. Located on Ma'anshan Mountain in Mentougou District, Beijing, it is 35 kilometers from the city center. It boasts a long history, grand scale, magnificent halls, and beautiful scenery. Jietai Temple was built in the fifth year of the Tang Dynasty's Wude era (622 AD), with a history of 1400 years. Originally named Huiju Temple, it was renamed "Wanshou Chan Temple" by Emperor Yingzong of the Ming Dynasty. Because it houses the largest Buddhist ordination platform in the country, capable of conferring the highest Buddhist precepts—the Bodhisattva precepts—it is known as the "Number One Ordination Platform in the World." Facing east, the temple sits at an altitude of over 300 meters, covering an area of 4.4 hectares with a building area of 8392 square meters. The halls are built along the contours of the mountain, creating a harmonious and picturesque landscape. The architecture is mainly in the Ming and Qing styles, but also retains many architectural features from the Liao Dynasty, making it one of the ancient architectural complexes in Beijing that best preserves Liao and Jin styles and relics. Jietai Temple is renowned for its "ordination platform and unique pine trees." A poem praises it: "Tanzhe is renowned for its springs, Jietai for its pines. Gazing afar at the verdant shadows, one can already hear the sound of waves. Upon entering, each tree seems to recognize its inhabitants, bowing and looking up as if to welcome one another. Each tree possesses a unique form, skillfully vying with the Creator." The ancient lilacs and peonies at Jietai Temple were bestowed by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, and are over 200 years old. The temple possesses both the majestic grandeur of northern temples and the serene elegance of southern gardens, making it not only a famous Buddhist temple in China but also a renowned tourist destination.
