Beijing Bell and Drum Tower
The Bell Tower and Drum Tower were the two tallest buildings along the central axis during the more than 500 year period of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The two floors are vertically arranged in front and back, with a magnificent and majestic atmosphere. The Bell and Drum Tower, as the timekeeping center of the capital cities of the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, is one of the iconic buildings of the ancient capital Beijing.
In the evening of Beijing in the past, accompanied by the sound of bells and drums, the ancient capital experienced a ceremonial dormancy until the next day at five o'clock, when the drums sounded again and the city gradually woke up. Now that the second floor of the Drum Tower has been repaired, riders can still stop and purchase tickets to visit the tower. This is the central axis cycling of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
