Beijing Hutongs are narrow alleys formed by traditional courtyard compounds called siheyuan. The term "Hutong" is believed to originate from the Mongolian word for "water well". Beijing's hutongs first appeared in the Yuan Dynasty and reached their prime during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Each hutong has its own history and stories.

Today, they are not only residential areas but also living museums that reflect the evolution of Beijing. Walking through the hutongs, you can see grey - tiled rooftops and intricately designed doorways. You can experience the unique local culture. They are an important part of Beijing's cultural heritage.
